Located in the central square of Ioannina park Litharitsia.
The collections of the Archaeological Museum of Ioannina developed in seven classrooms, main hall and three terraces, a total area of 1,200 sq.m.
The exhibits cover a long period, the first appearance of man on the Continent, during the Lower Paleolithic era before than 250,000 years, until the twilight of late antiquity in the late Roman period (3rd century AD.). Particular emphasis is placed on findings from the sanctuary of Dodona are exposed to a room dedicated solely to one of the greatest oracles of the Greek world. You will admire the important collection of small objects of the 13th century, bronze ware finds from the excavations of the ancient Amvrakia, continental currencies and other ancient Greek cities of today Arta etc. Particularly special is the oldest exhibit in the museum, one hand axes Achelaias technology (circa 200,000 BC) and the marble sarcophagus from ancient Fotiki Thesprotia. The new permanent exhibition has the dimension of the old continent, as it was, say, inspired the first Director of AMI Vokotopoulou Julia.
It contains about 3,000 artifacts from throughout the continent. The structure is based on three pillars: a chronological, geographical and a thematic one.
